For this Easter day, let us remember the price our LORD Jesus Christ paid for our salvation. As we recognize that salvation is by Grace and not by works, let us also appreciate that while it is free to us, it was paid with a costly price. Dr. Keith Maxwell shares with us a graphic description of this cost to Jesus Christ. Let us exalt Him as we remember Easter. Blessings..

This commentary is about the accusation of Anti-Semitism against the movie "The Passion of The Christ". The accusation arises from the view that the movie portrays the Jews as the main culprit causing the death of Jesus. There is no doubt Mel Gibson did exercise artistic license in portraying Pontius Pilate as a just and fair ruler. In doing so, he is following a long line of illustrous European scholars and artists. After all, we have seen numerous paintings by great masters showing Jesus Christ as Caucasian with blonde hair and flowing silk robes while it is more likely that Jesus is of tanned complexion, black haired and dressed in linen in the attire of a travelling rabbi. Similarly, the movie shows the crucification as nailing through the palms while most modern scholars suggest that nailing through the wrist between the two bones of the forearm is the prevalent practice. Mel Gibson, like the artists before him, had chosen to fill in the details not specified in the Bible from his own imagination but whereever it is specifically written in the Bible, he stayed faithfully to the written word. The following is my interpretation of the situation.

The following article reminds me of a story once told of how 2 demons were bragging about their prowess. The spirit of death declared that he killed a 100 people in a particular village. The spirit of panic retorted, "Sure, but I drove the rest of the people sick with worry!".
This is a perhaps an appropriate time to centre our thoughts to the Shepherd who watches over all of us.

A article by Nury Vittachi, a witty journalist/writer who lives in HK.
There is a dangerous virus spreading through Hong Kong. It is NOT atypical pneumonia. It is panic.
All outbreaks of any high-profile pathogen or disease (cf the UK's Mad Cow disease) have two major effects. A tiny proportion of people are hit by the disease itself. A large number of people, organizations and entire industry sectors are hit by the panic that accompanies it.

Audio Equipment walking out of churches.. |

There has been a recent spate of thefts in the churches. This trend appears to be in cycles.
The last cycle was about 2 weeks ago, when 2 mixers (a Yamaha 01V and a Mackie 1604) and a bass guitar (Ibanez 5 String Bass Guitar SR405 wood glossed finish) were stolen from Riverlife Church in Pasir Ris and Bethesda Frankel.
It appears that the thieves are very clear about who and what they are targeting, and are not localised (ie. anywhere in Singapore). They are apparently carried out in broad daylight - walk in, walk out.
Please alert your church of this problem. Unsecured equipment may not be lying around when your next service begins.
Should anyone come across attempted sale of such equipment, they should immediately inform the police or look for the opportunity to share the Good News.

We bid you Welcome!
After a year of rest, we are back to serve you at Antioch. Thank you for staying with us through 2002 while we rested and reflected on the previous 7 years of operations.
We hope to serve you with "renewed" vigor in 2003 and with new web services. Please let us know how we can best serve you.
May the LORD grant you and your families a blessed year. Please give us your feedback on what you think of this revamp of Antioch.
